How we rank
One public score, 0–100, calculated separately for every use case. Methodology v0.1.
The Fit Score
Each tool gets a 0–100 score for each use case it covers. A great coding tool can be a weak writing tool, so tools are never scored "overall" for ranking.
| Factor | Weight | How it's measured |
|---|---|---|
| Fit for the use case | 30 | Does it do this job end-to-end? Scored against a written rubric for each use case. |
| Output quality | 25 | How good the output is on our standard hands-on task for the use case (e.g. “build a snake game”, “summarize 5 papers”). Untested tools get an estimate and are flagged. |
| Ease / time-to-value | 15 | Minutes from sign-up to the first useful result. |
| Value / pricing | 15 | Free tier, and price compared with the alternatives. |
| Momentum | 10 | Week-over-week growth in public signals: GitHub stars, Product Hunt votes, Hacker News points, Hugging Face trending (normalized). |
| Trust / maturity | 5 | Company track record, privacy and terms, uptime, and update cadence. |
Total = 0.30·Fit + 0.25·Quality + 0.15·Ease + 0.15·Value + 0.10·Momentum + 0.05·Trust, rounded.
Tested vs. preliminary
A Tested ✓ score means we signed up, ran the use case's standard task ourselves, and wrote notes. A Preliminary score, marked *, is an estimate from public information: features, pricing, and momentum.
Right now, every score on the site is preliminary. We're launching with estimates and replacing them with hands-on results, use case by use case.
The rules
- Each use case is ranked separately.
- Sponsorship and affiliate status are excluded from the score.
- Tools launched in the last 30 days get a “New” badge.
- Scores are rechecked every 4 weeks, or after a major release.
- Pricing is checked against vendor pages and dated on every tool page.
- The methodology version is shown on every ranking.
How money works here
Submissions are free. Paid fast-track review buys speed, not rank. Sponsored slots are labeled and kept separate from ranked lists. Where we use affiliate links, we say so on the tool's page. Sponsor packages and rules are on the Advertise page.
